Fantastic Trilogy...

Posted by spider6969

Well that went on a bit too much for my liking, which has been a problem with the others in this trilogy. I still prefer his earlier work as it just floored the competition with his wild imagination and humour.

thanks for the info...I never read the books, but am in love with the films...Are elves and the Maiar related? And did Bilbo and Frodo accept the offer of life in Valinor?

Posted by chronomagister

for the elves, i'm not sure i think it was because they were tired of all the constant fighting and wanted peace as for gandalf he is basically an angel (sort of) and bilbo and frodo left with them because they helped destroy the ring as well as being ring bearers, they literally carried the burden of the world

for a period-fantasy film, it's pretty good...as a modern viewer from the Global South, there are a lot of social issues in the trilogy which I find abhorrent, such as the racism, sexism, the blatant heteronormative and unapologetically eurocentric worldview of middle-earth (i.e. all the warriors, save one, were all men, and all the characters all white, etc)...having said that, I realize JRR Tolkien is from a time when such things were common, when there was still such a thing as a British Empire and Europeans thought of themselves as the centre of the universe...now, hello China, India, Nigeria, Mexico...a shift from the West to the Rest...hello the world...still, I enjoyed the films despite these issues. 9/10

well they're currently working on The Hobbit should be out sometime in 2012 or 13.

It's easy to tell that Peter Jackson is a fan first, director second. He put his heart and soul into these films as an homage to Tolkien. An interesting factoid for you guys; Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were contemporaries and both belonged to a literary club called "The Inklings". The Inklings met regularly at a local pub where each member would read new chapters of their work and discuss improvements, ideas, etc. How fascinating it would have been to be sitting at the bar with a pint and listening to their conversation.

I think this was the best one of the franchise! It's got a brilliant soundtrack and a fantastic cast with Hugo Weaving, Karl Urban, Viggo Mortensen, Andy Serkis, Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen:) 6.6/10 I like the battle scenes but damn there are a couple of cheesy ass moments! Mainly from the Hobbits:L I did like this movie but it is widely overrated, everyone hyped it up way too much I was expecting it to be really epic but it was just okay:/ I hate Elijah Wood's laugh it seemed very cheesy and child like haha. Also the first hour of the movie was really boring I thought, it does not need to be 4 hours long! There were quite a few moments in the movie where I thought oh this could be a great moment but then they went in the opposite direction. If you think about it, it's a very predictable movie sorry. But on the other hand it has some awesome special effects and some pretty darn good acting:D

Incredible movie, I didn't want it to end!

Read the books when I was a kid. Waited way to long for the movies. Was well worth the wait. Fantastic movies.

Elves were the first children of the Valar so arnt any relation to the Maiar I dont think. The Valar are effectively Gods. And Maiar are less powerful spirits. Though Elves have immortality and I dont think their spirits can ever truly die so maybe they have some relation! And yes Bilbo and Frodo both went off to Valinor. And Sam followed later. And even later I think Legolas and Gimli also went to Valinor after everyone else had passed on.

These movies are obviously not fit for people who don't enjoy the magic of the Lord of the Rings. Afterall, the trilogy is based on the books, and the books are crammed with details, so that they can't all fit in three 4h long movies. I think this is the best book adaptation ever made, so far. It's a brilliant job by everyone and it hasn't aged a bit, even though they're practically 10 year old movies. In my opinion, they'll last forever like the book has lasted ever since it was written, it'll never be forgotten and every generation will learn to appreciate how beautiful human imagination can be, to create such masterpieces. One of the best stories ever made, just makes you want to jump into it. Totally recommend for everyone.

4 hours long, GEEZ still great and extended scenes on all three movies really tied loose ends.

Love it cannot wait to see hobbit!! Need to read the books!!

omg one of my fav movies

Posted by SirrGawain

The emotionally gripping ending to one of Tolkiens stories. It is and always will be my favourite set of films and im sure it will go down in history as a legendary piece. Much has been removed from the original story written in the book but Jackson had his reasons and there is little that could have been done to improve this truely beautiful work.
